Second Place

Unfolding the Park

‘Unfolding the Park’ was a guided walk through the landscape surrounding MPavilion. Speakers from varied disciplines (art, history, heritage, law, and the built environment) chose a site, plant or object within the Kings Domain parklands to act as a vector from which they could trace-back or speculate-forward. These short vignettes make visible the non-linear history — partial and disjointed — of this site.

Generated discussion included the intersection of climate resilience paradigms and heritage concerns within living landscapes; planting for climate refugia; a reflection on ways in which design disciplines may be complicit in the overdetermination of public space. Through these layered and lightly overlapping discussions the many histories, potentialities and subjectivities that shape our experience of place is revealed.
